After an eight-year delay, Last year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of this National Dolphin Research Center on the bank of river Ganga in the Premises of Patna University.
The NDRC stuck for 4-years as Patna University refused to provide their land to build the research center. Unhappy over the delay, last year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar threatened the research center might be shifted to Bhagalpur. Thereafter, the matter somehow resolved, and Patna University finally agreed to give their land to build the research center.
The research center is said to be built on about 4400 sqm of land and the expected cost to build this center is about Rs. 28 crores.
A recent survey reports, Bihar has India’s half of Dolphin Population.
The main aim of this research center will be to protect these endangered species by providing them proper food and shelter (a safe area in river). The research center will also be able to do research on dolphins that somehow has died anywhere in the country.
